Aims/objetivos

The student will be able to:

  •  use the periodic table to determine whether an element is a metal or non metal.
  •  perform tests to determine the physical differences between metals and non metals.
  •  perform chemical tests: with acids and the pH of oxides.
  •  make a chart of the common elements, data and uses using names and symbols.
  •  use tables Chap 13 to detect similarities and trends from data.
  •  lstudy unusual metals Group 1 and 2
  •  do some research on a given element.
  •  make a time line to show: development of ideas about atom through time, date of discovery of the elements and important events in world history .
  •  know position charge and mass of the 3 main subatomic particles.
  •  arrange particles up to element 20.
  •  determine the significance of group and period numbers and why the noble gases are inert.
