Aims/objetivos

Students should:

  •    Define respiration as the release of energy from food substances in all living cells.
  •  Define aerobic respiration.
  •  State the equation for aerobic respiration, using either words or symbols.
  •  Name and describe the uses of energy in the body of living things.
  •  Compare aerobic respiration
  •  Define anaerobic respiration
  •  Compare aerobic and anaerobic respiration in terms of relative amounts of energy released.
  •  State the equation for anaerobic respiration using either words or s Symbols.
  •  Describe: its role in brewing the production of lactic acid in muscles during exercise.
  •  List the features of gaseous exchange surfaces in animals.
  •  Explain the relation between structure and function in the gaseous exchange organs of different types of animals (fish, amphibians, mammals).
  •  Describe: the effects of physical activity on rate and depth of breathing, the effects of tobacco and its major toxic components on the respiratory system.

Content/contenido
