The students will be able to understand and apply:
The reactions of acids with: metals, carbonates, bases, litmus and universal indicator. The reactions of bases with: acids, ammonium salts. Litmus and universal indicator. The pH scale and Universal indicator colours produced by weak and strong acids and alkalies The Hydrogen and hydroxide ion. Analysis of ions and gases given analysis sheets. Reactions of acidic , basic and amphoteric oxides
Summative task / evaluación final
Practicals: making salts their separation and purification ( revise criteria for purity) Making and testing fertilisers. Testing pH of soil and correcting acidity. Neutralising an acid lake. Making and evaluating indicators from plant materials. What is Universal Indicator? Practical write ups and end of topic test.
