Guiding question / pregunta guía What importance does measuring and comparing have for mankind?
Area of Interaction/área de interacción
  • ATL, Homo Faber
Aims/objetivos
  •  Understand and use the trigonometric ratios to find angles and sides.
  •  Recognize and sketch the sine and cosine function
  •  Understand what the term probability means and its implications in the outside world. Be able to calculate probability fractions.

Content/contenido

Understand and be able to apply trigonometry to problems. The students will:

  •  Use the trigonometric ratios to find side length and angles including bearings
  •  Apply trigonometric ratios to problems
  •  Use the unit circle Quadrant 1 to calculate some trigonometric identities
  •  Express all angles in terms of those in quadrant 1 (circular functions) and calculate trigonometric ratios for some angles
  •  Recognize the shape and main features of y = sin x and y = cos x
  •  Sketch the above trigonometric functions
  •  Use the GDC to find the coordinates of turning points and the x-intercepts

Sets and Probability. The students will:

  •  Introduce correct set notation
  •  Interpret, draw and use Venn diagrams to organise and analyse information
  •  Shade Venn diagrams to find for example:
  •
  •  Mutually Exclusive (or disjoint) events
  •  Use two-way tables, tree diagrams and Karnaugh maps to calculate different probabilities
Summative task / evaluación final
  • Test, Quizzes, Project, Classwork
